Dr Jessica Gaff Receives AO Spine Start Up Research Grant

Dr Jessica Gaff, Neurospine Institute’s Research Scientist has been awarded a $40,000 research grant from the AO Spine Research Commission.

The AO Foundation’s clinical division awards this grant specifically to provide an opportunity to support young clinicians and scientists in the field of spine research to help promote clinical and translational research in the early part of their research career.

Dr Gaff will be spearheading a research project through the NSI Foundation entitled “Investigating the role of polymorphisms in genes involved in inflammation in spontaneous resorption of herniated discs”.

By identifying these significant polymprphisms, some patients may be able to benefit from conservative treatment options via a simple blood test and may allow the development of therapeutics to promote resorption of herniated discs.

Dr Jessica Gaff completed her PhD in Biomedical Science at Curtin University in 2021 and has several years of experience in clinical and laboratory based medical research. We are tremendously proud of her achievement in the success of her grant application and are very much looking forward to seeing this project come into fruition, along with anticipated future achievements in her research career with our Neurospine Foundation.
